Poetto
Residential and seaside area situated in the east side of the town with a large sloping coast and very white sand. It is provided with seaside resorts, restaurants and children's gardens. The small tourist port of Marina Piccola, at the foot of the promontory called "Sella del Diavolo", offers the basic facilities for pleasure navigation.



Molentargius and S. Gilla Ponds
They are situated respectively in the east and in the west side of the town. These ponds are very important moist areas abounding in several and rare species of avifauna, among which the pink flamingo stands out.



Santa Margherita di Pula
It is a residential and seaside village at about 40 km from Cagliari on the National Road 195. A pine-forest sloping towards the sea surrounds the coast characterized by large beaches. A curtain of mountains protects the area from the winds making the climate mild. Tourist and hotel equipments are very good and comfortable.
Within the municipality of Pula it is possible to visit the ruins of the Punic-Roman town of Nora. Opening hours (working days, Sundays and holydays): 9 am - 7 pm in summer, 9 - 12 am and 2 - 5 pm in winter. Admission: adults Lit. 4,000, children Lit. 2,000. The Town Archaeological Museum hosts a very interesting collection of findings coming from the neighbouring ruins of the ancient town of Nora (at about 3 km). Opening hours (working days, Sundays and holydays): 9 am - 1 pm and 3 - 6 pm. The ticket is valid for the visit to the Museum and to the ruins of Nora.



Barumini
It is situated at about 60 km from Cagliari. Here you can visit a nuraghic group of buildings which is one of the most complete and the better preserved of Sardinia. Opening hours: in winter from Monday to Friday 8 am - 2 pm, on Saturdays and Sundays 9 - 12.30 am and 2.30 - 4.30 pm; in summer (working days, Sundays and holydays): from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to the sunset.



Calamosca
It is a quiet and scenic village located at 4 km from Cagliari. It appears on a small rocky inlet of the Gulf of Angels.


Campu Omu
It is a typical village abounding in trees, at foot of the mountains known as "I Sette Fratelli". It is nice above all in spring and in autumn. It is about 30 km away from Cagliari on the National Road 125.


Villasimius Coast
It is situated in the east side of the Gulf of Cagliari. It is one of the most evocative coast of the south of the island for the particular beauty of the sea and for the variety of the coast, where the beaches and the secluded coves alternate to the cliffs. It can be reached through the Provincial Road towards Villasimius, spreading into a panoramic stretch sometimes perpendicular to the sea. Along the coast there are lots of residential houses and hotels equipped with the most sophisticated and comfortable facilities.


Monte Arcosu (W.W.F. Oasis)
It is situated at about 20 km west from Cagliari and it is very interesting for its naturalistic beauties.


S. Antioco Island
It can be reached by driving along the western versant of the Gulf of Cagliari (National Road 195), along the scenic coast to Chia (towards Teulada and then continuing towards Giba and S. Giovanni Suergiu), or through the National Road 130 to Siliqua and Villamassargia. S. Antioco is connected to the mother-island by an isthmus crossed by the National Road 126. The island offers quiet beaches and sandy inlets that alternate to evocative cliffs and is provided with hotel and extra-hotel facilities. Near the village of S. Antioco there are some very interesting archaeological ruins, such as a Punic tofet and a Punic necropolis. Most of the findings coming from the excavations are gathered in the neighbouring Antiquarium. Opening hours (working days, Sundays and holydays): 9 am - 1 pm and 3.30 - 6 pm. Admission: adults Lit. 5,000, students Lit. 2,000 (the ticket is valid for the visit to the tofet and to the Antiquarium). The catacombs are also very interesting; they were obtained inside the underground tombs dating back to the Phoenician-Punic age and are situated under the romanesque-provençal church of S. Antioco.


Calasetta
It is a nice coastal village situated at 20 km from S. Antioco. It is equipped with hotel and extra-hotel facilities.


Carloforte (S. Pietro Island)
It is a particularly picturesque tourist and seaside village. The island is characterized by a succession of high cliffs and sandy coves. It is a good place for fishing, also for underwater fishing. The island is equipped with hotel and extra-hotel facilities. It can be reached from Calasetta and from Portovesme with multi-day frequency ferry-boats.


Monte Sirai
It is an archaeological site at 3 km from Carbonia. Here you can visit the ruins of a Phoenician-Punic fortress with a necropolis and a tofet which date back to the 4th century B.C.


Fluminimaggiore
Near Antas (on the National Road 126 - km 55 -, at 2 km from the crossroads between Fluminimaggiore and Iglesias) you can visit the restored ruins of the Sid Addir Babai Temple, Sardus Pater. The temple, belonging to the Roman age, was built in a place already dedicated to the religion in the nuraghic period and then in the Punic period.


Villanovaforru
It is situated at about 60 km from Cagliari. Here you oan visit an imposing nuraghic group of buildings dating back to the 1st millennium B.C. The findings from the excavations, concerning also the subsequent settlements dating back to the Punic and Roman era, are collected in a museum in the village.
Opening hours for the ruins and the museum (Sundays, holydays and working days, except Mondays): in summer 9.30 - 12.30 am and 4 - 7 pm; in winter 9 am - 1 pm and 3.30 - 5.30 pm. Admission: adults Lit. 5,000; students Lit. 2,000; discounts for tourist groups. The ticket is valid for the visit to the ruins and to the museum.
